J.W. Anderson for Topshop

Thank god for designer collaborations with retailers

J.W. Anderson's collection for Topshop really hits the spot. He nailed what he called "playing with ugliness" with his preppy-meets-goth meets the girl-from-The Ring-goes-to-private-school collection.  He plays with unconventional fabrics for staple pieces, like patent leather trenches and denim pleated-skirts, and distorts classic shapes into unflattering, thrift-store resembling, borrowed from littler brother pieces that are at once completely new and out of date at the same time. Some images from the feature:

Though not exactly affordable for the real person, but affordable for the person who can afford to want to appear too poor to purchase these things, the pieces range from $40-$440 depending on fabric. For the real person, like me, here are the pieces I think will boost your wardrobe most with the least burden on your checking account so the androgynous school girl-boy inside you can show its true, ugly, dark colors.
